COLON HYDROTHERAPY

CLEANSE. BALANCE. RESTORE.

What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon Hydrotherapy (a.k.a. colonics, colon therapy, colon cleansing and colonic irrigation) is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine, without the use of drugs. By introducing filtered and temperature regulated water into the colon, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. The inflow of a small amount of water and the release of waste is repeated several times during a session.

Colon hydrotherapy is a practice that offers the service of a trained therapist to carry out the procedure of colonic irrigation using approved (FDA registered) instruments. Colon irrigation is a procedure undertaken for the purpose of evacuating bowel contents to address health issues as prescribed by an MD or Health Care Provider.

Many people have preconceived ideas about Colon Hydrotherapy (also known as colonic irrigation.) Our aim is to explain how the treatment is performed and give you some ideas as to whether it is something you would wish to undertake.

Colon Hydrotherapy is not a new treatment. In fact, it was used in hospitals until recent times when it was replaced by strong purgatives which are used for emptying the bowel before procedures or treating fecal impaction.

At your first appointment your therapist will take a full medical case history, and will explain the procedure and treatment process to you. Do not hesitate to ask any questions. At this time we will also discuss what you, the client, hope to accomplish through colon hydrotherapy.

During therapy the client lies on a modern, state-of-the-art treatment table in complete comfort. From the "LIBBE"; an FDA Registered colonic table, a small, sterile, disposable speculum is gently inserted into the rectum... through which warm filtered water passes into the colon.

A skilled colon hydro-therapist will use several fills and releases of water and during the therapy water temperature and pressure will be monitored by the colon therapist. Each colon hydrotherapy session lasts approximately 45 minutes and one should allow at least one hour per office visit. Initially, a series of at least three separate therapy sessions may be recommended, to achieve the maximum cleansing benefit. This helps to eliminate fecal matter which may have been lodged in the colon for weeks, months, or even years, and to keep the client properly hydrated.

The colon hydro-therapist will carefully evaluate the client's progress during their session to determine if additional sessions would be beneficial. After a therapy session, many people report a feeling of heightened energy, an increased sense of well-being and renewed vitality.

Your colon therapist should be able to suggest a reasonable schedule depending on your personal health status and desire for further therapy.

When a colonic treatment cannot be performed...

There are conditions where a colonic treatment would not be undertaken.

These include conditions such as active colon infections or inflammation (for example, diverticulitis, Chrohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, etc) a painful fissure/fistula or painful hemorrhoids. Also some physical conditions such as severe abdominal or inguinal hernias which cannot be easily reduced or if you’ve had abdominal or rectal/colon surgery in the past 3 months. In such cases treatment cannot be carried out until they are healed or in remission. Some diseases such as congestive heart disease, severe uncontrolled hypertension, severe anemia, liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, severe hemorrhaging and colo-rectal carcinoma are absolute contra-indications to treatment. If you as a client, or our therapists, are in any doubt, we will refer you to your G.P. for advice.

Treatments are also not performed during pregnancy.

We always take a full case history before commencing a colon hydrotherapy session. If there is any doubt we will refer you to your G.P.
